collect.at Antiques and unique Collectibles Sports Medal: Decorative Bronze, 1930

Sports medal, decorative Bronze depicting 2 sportsmen, trying for the laurel wreath. They are depicted as naked, classical Creek athletes.

The medal was awarded for the second best in a running competition. The inscription at the back reads: “ II ÖPM 1930, 800m Lauf 2 P “. Size: 1.5 x 2 inches. Fine patina.

Black spot at upper left side otherwise very fine condition."

James King Autograph, 1978, Cavaradossi in Tosca

We just learned that James King has passed away yesterday. This is a big loss for the Opera World.



"James King autograph on b/w photo, as Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca. Signed 1978 in Wien. Size: 4.1 x 5.8. Paper remnants at back otherwise fine condition. In the early 1960s, at the Vienna State Opera, he sang mainly Wagner and Strauss roles. From 1965 to 1975, he sang at the Bayreuth Festival, as Lohengrin, Siegmund and Parsifal. Not until 1966 was his magnificent voice heard at New York's Metropolitan Opera House.

His main roles there were Florestan and Lohengrin. He has also sang in the Paris Opera (Calaf, Marico,...), the Royal Opera House (Manrico, the Emperor,...) and the Teatro alla Scala, Milan as Siegmund, Florestan, the Emperor, Bacchus... James King was awarded the title of Kammersänger for the cities of Berlin, Munich, and Vienna and stared four German film productions of opera, television and radio productions.

He is presently a voice teacher in the Indiana University School of Music His last recorded appearance was in the 25th anniversary of James Levine at the Metropolitan Opera, in 1996. Authentic Autograph, signed in Vienna."
